Hello and Happy Monday!
This afternoon we spent a little time doing a writing activity to continue our investigation of adjectives and how they can enhance our lives. Five friends worked together to write a simple story beginning. I projected this so that we could all read along. Next, we went back through these sentences, as a class to see how we could add more detail and information through the use of descriptive words. The curious, creative, thoughtful students asked me to post this!
The first paragraph is the five sentences, the second is after our editing. Many friends were excited by this and inspired to create their own stories to tweak and have fun adding more description. I can't wait to hear them. If you write one together as an adventurous, clever, connected family, email it to share!
Once upon a time, there were two little turtles. One was named Gloria and the other was named Madison. They were newborns. They always swam in the water. They ate lettuce. The turtles went to their house and they saw a little boy.
Once upon a time, there were two little, funny turtles. One was named Gloria and the other was name Madison. They were cute newborns. They always swam in the clean, shiny pond water. They ate soft, green, crunchy lettuce. The friendly turtles went to their colorful wooden house and they saw a smart and strong little boy. (To be continued?)

Also, we investigated the state of Illinois and read lots of facts about Chicago today since the assembly last week brought this up. The kids were amazed at how many things were invented in Chicago: the zipper, roller skates, the skyscraper and Cracker Jacks. And all in the late 1800s! We put a fact sheet up in class. I wonder if your child came home talking about this.
Have a great night, Jennifer
PS Our garden trip is coming soon, can't wait. Check out the website for a sneak peek here!
Here is our first family story sent in by email tonight! It's fun to share what you are doing at home together. Thank you!
Once upon a time there were two cute Pugs. They were mommy and daddy Pugs. They had one small daughter Pug and one crazy son Pug. They were a wonderful family of Cocker Pugs. That is a mix of Cocker Spaniel and Pug.
The adventurous Pug family loved to go out after rainy days and play in the cold, wet mud. They loved to play softly together. One day, the silly son Pug named Sun was playing with a giant, round, bouncy ball when he accidentally popped it. It made a very loud, popping noise that scared the shy daughter Pug named Rainy. Rainy was so scared that she barked all day long.
The End
Thank you,
Traci and Rainli
